How we approach pricing at Felt
Learn how we are creating pricing for Felt (starting January 2024) and how your use case fits into our new subscription plans.
Learn how we are creating pricing for Felt (starting January 2024) and how your use case fits into our new subscription plans.

The more people who experience the power — and joy — of mapping, the better.

This concept has guided us as we’ve built Felt, making sure that you experience mapping software that is intuitive, streamlined, and highly collaborative. We want to remove as much friction as possible from getting you into Felt and making full use of what Felt has to offer.

One of the ways we’ve done this is by keeping the Felt product completely free, which has been valuable as we’ve learned from you what is working and what we need to build next. Through this process, we’ve heard your encouragement and grew our conviction about when and how to introduce pricing to Felt.

Felt will remain completely free to use — every feature — until January 1, 2024.

And there will always be a Felt free plan, even after the new year.

Starting in January 2024, we will introduce pricing plans to Felt. You can see a complete view of these plans below, and note that a handful of the features coming to Felt’s pricing plans.

Keep reading for more details about how we’re thinking about pricing at Felt.

There will always be a Free plan

So much of the power of modern online software comes from experiencing it change your workflow for the first time. Because of this, we want to continue to keep the barrier low for people to jump in and see what Felt is like. This is true for Felt users across the board — from professional users like city planners and consultants trying Felt for the first time to hobbyists who use Felt for a single map or passion project, be it hiking or trip planning.

We want to ensure that Felt remains an easy choice to make for getting started with a modern, online mapping experience.

The Felt Free plan will include:

  • unlimited maps
  • up to three users collaborating with you in your workspace
  • ability to share privately, and post publicly
  • GeoJSON export

In addition, the free plan will allow you to upload 5 files to see the power of Upload Anything that’s unlocked with Felt’s paid plans.

Felt’s subscription plans are based on features and usage (viewers are always free)

As you can see from the Felt pricing table, there are two paid plans — Standard and Professional — and these are based on the functionality available to use and on the amount of file storage available.

On both plans, you can still create unlimited maps within your workspace. You can share these maps with anyone, and you won’t be charged for people viewing or commenting on your map.

The Standard and Professional plans are billed per editor. You can choose annual or monthly billing (annual billing comes with a 18% discount).

Where the plans differ from one another is in the features and the file storage.

On the Standard plan, you can use up to 500MB in file storage.

On the Professional plan, you can use up to 10GB.

The Standard plan gets you everything from the Free plan plus:

  • Unlimited file uploads
  • Image and PDF exports
  • Version history (coming later this year)
  • API access

And the Professional plan gets you everything in Standard plus:

  • Spatial analysis (coming later this year)
  • Private projects (coming later this year)
  • Embedding maps without the Felt logo
  • Priority support

Enterprise plans to support unique (and large) use cases

It’s been fun to hear from many users of Felt who work in unique ways with our product or who come from large businesses. With these people in mind, we built an Enterprise plan to further support this end of the market.

The Enterprise plan notably includes:

  • Greater file storage beyond 10GB
  • SSO, SAML, user provisioning, and audit logs
  • Sitewide licensing
  • Bulk API access
  • And a dedicated customer success manager as well as product training and onboarding

If you feel that this level of Felt usage might be what you need, we’d love to speak with you and to understand how best we can support you and your team. Feel free to reach out directly to speak with us.

Free for classroom use: Get any Felt paid plan for educators

We believe that mapping is a core medium that anyone, anywhere should be able to learn and use. And we believe one of the best places to gain exposure to maps is in the classroom.

For this reason, we are making our Standard and Professional plans free for educators.

We have built Felt to be intuitive to use, which has already led to many classrooms creating original, awesome maps for school projects. By continuing to make all Felt features free for educators, we hope that this will encourage creativity and exploration in the classroom and empower the next generation of map makers.

Additional questions

We know that a change like pricing can introduce a lot of curiosity. We’ve done our best to anticipate some of the most relevant pricing questions and to answer them below.

When will I be charged to use Felt?

Pricing goes into effect on January 1, 2024. You will be able to choose a subscription plan before that date and change your plan at any time.

How do I know what plan is right for me?

Later this year, we’ll be sending out emails informing which pricing plan you’re on based on your current feature usage and storage. You’ll have an opportunity to adjust this plan before we start charging.

How much storage am I using?

Later this year, we’ll be adding a dashboard that lets you see your current storage usage and how much space remains before the next pricing tier.

Does Felt charge for people viewing or commenting on my map?

No, viewers and comments are always free, on every plan, which is unique among most other map-making software.

What is an editor?

An editor is a member you add to your team with full editing permissions.

Individuals added directly to maps are referred to as guests, and don’t incur charges. Limits around guests will be shared later this year.

Do you offer any discounts?

Yes! If you choose annual billing for Felt, you will save up to 18%, the equivalent of two months free on either our Standard or Professional plan.

What happens if I cancel my subscription?

Your Felt maps and data can be easily exported so that you can take your work with you.

Over to you

Jump into Felt to experience all that the product has to offer.

The full product is completely free until January 2024. We’ll be continuing to add new features and functionality to Felt between now and then so that you have time to get the full Felt experience before choosing which plan best suits you in the new year.

We’d love your feedback on what works well for you, what’s missing, and what we can do to make Felt the best online mapping experience out there!
